Despite its name that comes from the Sanskrit “Singapura” which means “City of Lions,” there have never been native lions on the island. The prince who gave the name to the territory saw what he believed was a lion (but it was probably a tiger or maybe any other animal).

Chewing gum banned: The sale of chewing gum is somewhat prohibited in the country (except for specific medical use which is acquired in pharmacies). It is said this law helps to keep the streets extremely clean.
The country of fines: Singapore is known for its strict laws and system of fines for infractions that maybe trivial elsewhere. You can be fined for littering, spitting in public, or crossing the street improperly if there is a pedestrian crossing nearby.Ice cream with bread: A popular and traditional way of eating ice cream is in a sandwich, using slices of colored bread (or biscuits/wafers) to hold a block of ice cream.
Infinity pool at height: It houses the largest infinity pool in the world on the rooftop of the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel, to which only guests have access.
It is a city-state and an island: Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world and is, at the same time, a country, a city, and an island.
These rules and characteristics have earned Singapore a reputation for being one of the cleanest, safest, and most orderly cities in the world.
